A candidate forum for the upcoming Mitchell election was held last night at the Corn Palace.
Mitchell City Council candidates Marty Barington, Pam Bathke, Clay Loneman, and Dan Sabers discussed Lake Mitchell, the city’s workforce shortage, and Initiated Measure 26, which legalizes medical marijuana.
Mayoral candidates Jason Bates, Bob Everson, and Giovanni Lanier were asked about how being elected mayor would benefit them. They also talked about consensus building, revitalizing Main Street and downtown Mitchell, the city’s COVID-19 response, and how the mask mandate has contributed to the city’s current labor shortage.
Mitchell School board candidates Reed Bender, Debbie Emme, Brittni Flood, Chris Nebelsick, Shawn Ruml, and Dwight Stadler talked about what a school board member’s role should be, what their top priorities for the school district are, and contributing factors to students being able to stay in school for the full school year.
The election will be held on Tuesday, June 8th at the MCTEA building across from Mitchell Senior High School. Absentee ballots will be available on May 24th for those wishing to vote early.
