The Mitchell City Council last night approved a restructuring of two city departments. Parks and Recreation Director Nathan Powell will also be Golf and Cemetery Director.

Councilman Dan Sabers, who managed Lakeview Golf Course for several years, opposed the change. Sabers told the council that “everybody I’ve talked to in the golf course wants to keep it the way it was with their own department head, and the board voted unanimously to leave it the way it was.”

Mitchell Mayor Bob Everson said he would not hire a new Golf and Cemetery Director to supervise three employees. He says he would add a full-time golf specialist. “The intent here is to get another golf course-qualified person, and we did have another discussion about adding another seasonal part-timer,” said Everson.

Everson says Powell’s salary would not change with the restructuring. He estimated the city will save between $42,000 and $63,000.
