The Mitchell City Council will hold a special meeting and work session this evening at 6 PM at City Hall in downtown Mitchell. The council will consider a resolution and an agreement regarding the Corn Palace Stampede Rodeo. The city was approached by the rodeo to find a location to hold future rodeo events. The resolution on tonight’s agenda would lease a portion of property at Airport Road north of Mitchell to the Corn Palace Stampede Rodeo. Before formal discussions begin about the potential lease, the city and the rodeo would agree to an indemnification agreement, which is also on tonight’s agenda. The Corn Palace Stampede Rodeo is currently involved in a lawsuit with its rodeo grounds landlord, Horsemen’s Sports Incorporated. The rodeo alleges that Horsemen’s Sports destroyed and damaged Corn Palace Stampede’s property. The indemnification agreement would hold the city harmless from the current lawsuit.
Following the city council meeting will be a work session. Topics to be addressed include an update on Lake Mitchell watershed improvement efforts and the budget.
Tonight’s meeting is open to the public. It is also streamed online and televised locally. The complete agenda can be found here: https://www.cityofmitchell.org/AgendaCenter/ViewFile/Agenda/_08302021-1001?html=true.
