Mitchell firefighters were on the scene of a house fire last night. The call came in just after 8 PM. Dispatch was notified of smoke and flames in the basement of the house at 420 West 1st Avenue. Two people were home at the time of the fire. They were able to escape unharmed. When fire crews arrived, they found a small fire in the basement. The fire was knocked down in 30 minutes, and it did not spread. There was some property damage. The home was turned back over to the occupants.
