An increase in Mitchell sewer rates is on tonight’s Mitchell City Council agenda.  The increase would fund a new wastewater treatment plant.  The proposal would increase the base
from $20.01 to $22.01 per month and increase the per unit charge from $3.11 per unit to $3.40 per unit. This increase is necessary to cover the debt obligation due to financing the project with an SRF loan. It is also necessary due to the bids for the project coming in above the estimated costs.

A comparison chart of other first class municipalities is below. (However, it should be noted that most of these cities also have SRF applications with ARPA grant funds that will result in their rates being increased as well.

Tonight’s Mitchell City Council meeting begins at 6 PM at City Hall in downtown Mitchell.  It is open to the public, is streamed online at the city’s YouTube page, and is televised locally.
