MITCHELL, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) One Mitchell mayoral race and one Mitchell City Council race will officially be on the June 4th ballot. Incumbent councilman Jeff Smith has turned in a petition to run for re-election in Ward 4. He will face Don Everson, who was a longtime detective for the Mitchell Police Department and currently works for Mitchell Technical College. Mayor Bob Everson is also running for re-election and has one challenger so far – Jordan Hanson. Hanson is an outspoken opponent of the mayor’s plan to dredge Lake Mitchell. Petitions for city council and mayor can be obtained at the City Finance Office at City Hall in downtown Mitchell. The June 4th ballot will also feature two Mitchell School Board races. The seats held by Shawn Ruml and Brittni Flood are up for election. Both incumbents have taken out petitions to run for re-election. Mitchell School Board petitions can be obtained at the Mitchell School District Business Office. Petitions must be turned in with the required signatures by the end of the day on Monday, March 25th.
