RAPID CITY, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) A South Dakota man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for manslaughter in the 2013 death of his girlfriend. Fifty-five-year-old Richard Schmitz took a plea deal in January, in the death of 38-year-old Meshell Will. Her body was found along a road in the Black Hills. On Friday, the Rapid City Journal reports, Judge Craig Pfeifle handed down the maximum sentence. Schmitz and Will lived across the hall from each other in Custer. They checked into a Keystone motel about a week before her body was found. But it took eight years until he was charged.
