MITCHELL, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) The Mitchell City Council approved the second reading and adoption of an ordinance to rezone a portion of the Ridge View on Foster addition at its meeting on Monday May 6, 2024. The land had been donated by the Avera Queen of Peace hospital for the purpose of building additional housing.
The development will eventually be comprised of approximately 85 homes defined as “workforce housing”. That’s a State of South Dakota designation meaning that no home may be priced over $340,000. Workforce housing is distinct from the “affordable housing” definition.
In other action, the City came to a settlement with Puetz Construction over issues with the pool at the indoor aquatic center at the Parks and Recreation facility on the north end of town. There were issues with the laminate, plaster and questions about the integrity of the pool shell. The City incurred some design and engineering costs which were recouped in the settlement.
Puetz agreed to pay the City of Mitchell $120,342.21 as a settlement.
