MITCHELL, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) Nearly three-quarters of global farm ground is subject to significant climate change, according to NASA scientists.  The ten hottest years, since records have been kept, have occurred after 2014.  That increase in heat has led to more extreme weather events such as heat waves, floods, cyclones and other disastrous happenings.  The number of these extreme events has increased 400% in the last fifty years.

A University of Connecticut study finds that crop yields in the US Corn Belt will drop by 40% by later this century.  NASA researchers say that trend will continue throughout the world with corn yields set to drop by 24% by the end of this century.

Wholesale food prices have risen by 50% globally since 1999.  That’s due to a combination of factors like climate change, conflicts like the war in Ukraine, Covid era supply chain issues as well as run of the mill inflation.
