Mitchell Kernels
Boys Golf gets back on the course again today after having some noteworthy program success last week after posting their best team score in the last 20 years. The boys had their highest team total in the last 20 years this past Tuesday. They’re set to compete at 10am this morning at the Moccasin Creek Country Club.
Girls Tennis will have a meet today as they get back on the courts. They will travel to Watertown and compete in the Varsity ESD meet beginning at 2pm. It will be a multi-day event. They will continue again tomorrow morning at 8am.
Football will get some work in today. Varsity has an off day, but JV football will be in action this afternoon in Mitchell. They will be at home and begin at 4:15pm vs Huron at Joe Quintal Field.
Multiple games will take place tomorrow for Kernel volleyball tomorrow against Sioux Falls Lincoln. Beginning at 4:30pm with the JV, followed by the Sophomores at 5:30pm and Varsity and 7pm.
Soccer is set to have various matches tomorrow as well against Aberdeen Central. It will start with the girls JV at 4pm on the East Practice Field and the boys JV will follow at 6pm. Varsity boys also play at 4pm on Joe Quintal Field and the girls varsity will follow at 6pm.
Dakota Wesleyan
Each of the Tiger Golf teams will be competing today. They’ll both be on the road to Yankton, SD to face the Lancers. The women will tee off first at 8am and the men will start at approximately 9:55am. Both teams will continue action into Tuesday morning with both men and the women beginning at 8am.
Tiger Volleyball will look to pick up where they left off this weekend and pick up another win. They will head out tomorrow to take on Mount Marty as well. First serve is set for 7:30pm.
WNBA
A pair of Game 1’s occurred on Sunday with the WNBA Semifinals beginning. The first game of the day was a rematch of last year’s WNBA Finals – between the New York Liberty and the Las Vegas Aces. The Liberty were in control from the opening tip with big games from Breanna Stewart and Sabrina Ionescu. Stewart finished with 34 points and Ionescu added 21. The Liberty took Game 1, 87-77 at home. The second game was between the Connecticut Sun and Minnesota Lynx. A hot start from the Sun help power what ended up being a nice Game 1 victory over the Lynx. Connecticut came out on top, 73-70. Game 2 for each of these matchups will be tomorrow with both games on ESPN2 with Aces/Liberty starting at 6:30pm & Sun/Lynx at 8:30pm.
MLB
The Minnesota Twins failed to muster a win in their last series of the season. Dropping their final game of the year to the Marlins, 6-2. Minnesota finished their season falling off a cliff. They lost 27 of their last 39 games. They were 87-75 last year when they won the AL Central and reached the division series. This season they end their year with an 82-80 record.
NFL
The Minnesota Vikings had a took control of the game early on in their matchup with the Green Bay Packers. They led 28-7 at the half and the Packers were down, but not out. They rallied and nearly came back to win the game, scoring 22 points in the fourth quarter. Though Minnesota managed to hang on with a field goal in the fourth to keep them out in front and Green Bay ran out of time. Vikings remain undefeated and improve to 4-0 after the 31-29 win over Green Bay.
