MITCHELL, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) Americans who watched the Vice Presidential debate were pleasantly surprised.  The debate was civil, focused on policy and clearly laid out the plans of both campaigns, should they be elected in November.  Both men tried to accentuate the positives of their running mates at the top of the ticket, pointing out the deficiencies in the positions of the opposing side and deflecting criticisms of the negatives of the presidential candidates.

Those who watched the debate characterized it as informative and interesting to watch.  People on both sides of the aisle applauded the return to calm on the debate stage and a focus on policy rather than personalities.

Polls after the debate called it a draw.  For example, in a CBS News poll of those who watched the debate 42% thought the Republican Vice Presidential nominee JD Vance won while 41% thought the Democrat – Tim Walz – won, with 17% calling it a tossup and a tie.
