PIERRE, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) The Department of Tribal Relations will host the seventh annual State-Tribal Opioid and Methamphetamine Summit (STOMP) on October 21st and 22nd in Pierre. The event will bring together state, local, and tribal prevention providers and law enforcement to discuss how best to combat the drug epidemic in South Dakota.

“We are excited to hold a two-day summit this year, with the first day focusing on our law enforcement officials and the second day focusing on our prevention professionals,” stated Secretary David Flute. “It’s not often that we can get both state and tribal prevention professionals and law enforcement officials all in the same room, so we look forward to collaborative and impactful discussions.”

The summit’s first day will feature the South Dakota Fusion Center, Missing and Murdered Indigenous Persons Coordinator Allison Morrisette, and a Law Enforcement panel. The second day will feature the Oglala Department of Behavioral Health, Great Plains Tribal Leaders Health Board, Oaye Luta Okolakiciye, and a panel on resources for families facing addiction.

While everyone is invited to the event, the department strongly encourages treatment providers, state leaders, tribal leaders, and law enforcement officials to attend.
