Mitchell Kernels
The boys golf team will have their state tournament today. It will be held at the Watertown Municipal Cattail Golf Course and was originally supposed to begin at 9am, but due to probable frost conditions this morning, they will tee off at 10am. They continue action into tomorrow as well, starting at 9am.
Kernels JV will prepare to be in action today. They’ll be taking on Pierre at Joe Quintal Field. The game will begin at 4:15pm.
It’s playoff time for the Mitchell soccer teams! The girls are the No. 12 seed in the Class AA State Tournament, and they will face No. 5 seed Sioux Falls Washington. They are set to play tomorrow at Sioux Falls Washington High School beginning at 7pm. The boys enter as the No. 14 seed and will also be playing tomorrow. They will be taking on the No. 3 seed Sioux Falls Jefferson at Sioux Falls Jefferson High School at 7pm.

It was a long overdue breakthrough for the Tigers this weekend in Hastings, NE against the Broncos and they got a win in dominating fashion. Head Coach Alex Kretschmar gets his first win as head coach of the Tigers! They scored on the opening drive and never looked back. Making plays in every and playing well in every phase of the game They ended up hanging a season-high 31 points on the Broncos and won the game, 31-10.
WNBA
Sunday playoff action in the WNBA did not disappoint! The No. 1 seed New York Liberty took down the two-time defending champs, the No. 4 seed Las Vegas Aces, 76-62. Vegas gave it all they had but failed to force Game 5. The Liberty return to the WNBA Finals for the second straight year and sixth time in franchise history. A team that did force a Game 5 though? The No. 3 seed Connecticut Sun. They protected homecourt in their matchup with the No. 2 seed Minnesota Lynx as point guard Ty Harris made her return to the starting lineup. The Sun will go back to Minnesota for a pivotal Game 5 after their 92-82 victory yesterday afternoon.

Sunday football was exciting but now we get set for Monday Night Football! It’ll be a high-powered matchup between the New Orleans Saints and Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium. Kansas City will look to remain undefeated and improve to 5-0 and New Orleans has hopes of ending the win streak for the Chiefs in a hostile environment. The kickoff is set for 7:15pm on ESPN.

Playoff games for the National League were in full swing yesterday. The No. 6 seed New York Mets fell just short of taking another game away from the No. 2 seed Philadelphia Phillies. Philly snuck away with the win in a tight one, coming out on top, 7-6. Next was a dominant performance from the No. 4 seed San Diego Padres. They managed six runs in the final two innings for a 10-2 win over the No. 1 seed Los Angeles Dodgers. Each NL division series is tied 1-1. Today the American League will play their Game 2’s. The No. 6 seed Detroit Tigers will begin against the No. 2 seed Cleveland Guardians beginning at 3:08pm. Followed by the No. 5 seed Kansas City Royals battling the No. 1 seed New York Yankees at 6:38pm. Both games will be on TBS/TruTV.
