Mitchell Kernels

Boys golf have been competing in the state tournament over the last two days in Watertown. They had four athletes finishing in the top half of individual competitors. Including: Everett Morrison who finished a combined 17 over par (83 day one, 78 day two) to tie for 53rd, Marshall Winstrom ended with 16 over par (78 day one, 82 day two) to tie for 49th, Carter McCormick with an 11 over par score (79 day one, 76 day two) and ended tied for 31st and Asher Dannenbring with five over par (76 day one, 73 day two) and tied for 20th. Mitchell ended up finishing in 8th overall as a team out of 18 total teams with a team score of 48 over par and a 624 total through two days.

The Class AA State Tournament began last night with both Mitchell soccer teams in action. The boys suffered a crushing defeat to the No. 3 seed Sioux Falls Jefferson, 8-0. They end the season 5-8-2 overall. The girls, however, had a battle against No. 5 seed Sioux Falls Washington. It was a wire-to-wire matchup that ended in a 1-1 tie. Though since Sioux Falls Washington was the higher seed, they won the tiebreaker and advanced to the next round. The girls season ends with a 5-8-1 overall record.

Dakota Wesleyan

The men’s and women’ golf teams continued action in The Mustang Derby at Morningside University. They began yesterday bright and early. Both the men and the women will tee’d off at 8am again this morning. The men finished in 10th place and the women took home second.

Tiger soccer gets back to it today. They’ll be at home at the Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex here in Mitchell. Each team will face the Waldorf Warriors with the women playing first at 5pm and then the men at 7:30pm.

WNBA

The No. 2 seed Minnesota Lynx came home and took care of business in Game 5. They took down the No. 3 seed Connecticut Sun, 88-77 in Minneapolis. Powered by strong efforts from Courtney Williams and Napheesa Collier who combined for 51 points. Collier finished with 27 points & 11 rebounds, while Williams added 24 points and seven assists.

MLB

The Game 3 action was big time last night in the MLB! First it was the No. 6 seed New York Mets taking care of the No. 2 seed Philadelphia Phillies, 7-2. Five of their seven runs came in the last three innings to guide them past the Phillies. Putting them up 2-1 in the series. The final game of the night was between the No. 4 seed San Diego Padres and No. 1 seed Los Angeles Dodgers. Each of the first three innings featured most of the night’s scoring. Six coming in the bottom of the second from San Diego and followed up by four in the top of the third from LA. The Padres win 6-5 and take a 2-1 series lead.

NHL

Hockey returned in the NHL yesterday! The new season is here. It began with the St. Louis Blues defeating the Seattle Kraken, 3-2. Followed by the Florida Panthers taking down the Boston Bruins, 6-4. It concluded with the first ever game from the new Utah franchise. The Utah Hockey Club defeated the Chicago Blackhawks, 5-2.
