Mitchell Kernels

Girls tennis will begin their state tournament today and will continue into tomorrow! They’ll be competing at Sioux Park in Rapid City with the tournament starting at 10am (9am MT).

Kernel volleyball action picks back up tomorrow. They will travel to take on Rapid City Central at Rapid City Central High School. It’ll start with the JV at 5:30pm, followed by the sophomores at 6:30pm and then varsity at 8pm (7pm MT).

The freshman football team will have a matchup on the road with Pierre today. They’re scheduled to play at 4:30pm tonight at Pierre Hollister Field. Then tomorrow it will be the varsity back home at Joe Quintal Field hosting Brandon Valley. Pregame with Drew Ivery on Pure Oldies 103.5 will begin at 6:40pm and kickoff is set for 7pm.

Dakota Wesleyan

The men’s and women’ golf teams competed over the last couple of days in the Mustang Derby, hosted by Morningside University. Results include a 10th place finish for the men and a second place finish for the women. Highlighted by Allison Meyerink having an individual first place finish. She is one of three Tigers to shoot 155 or better (147) in the event through 36 holes of golf. Others being Connor Calahan (147) and Kaylee Johnson (155).

Tiger soccer had a doubleheader last night here in Mitchell. It featured a pair of dominant performances by DWU with a pair of shutouts. Women’s soccer defeated Waldorf 6-0 and the men won their match against Waldorf, 3-0.

Tiger football, fresh off their first win, will welcome Doane to town. It’ll be a Battle of the Tigers! It’ll be DWU’s first home football game in nearly a month. The pregame with Rod Pattison will be at 12:35pm and kickoff is set for 1pm at Joe Quintal Field here in Mitchell.

WNBA

The No. 2 seed Minnesota Lynx secured themselves a spot in the WNBA Finals on Tuesday night. Now they will face the No. 1 seed New York Liberty tonight in Game 1. It’s a league-best seventh trip to the Finals in franchise history for the Lynx and sixth appearance for the Liberty. Action is set to begin at 7pm on ESPN as the Lynx seek their fifth championship and the Liberty aim for their first ever.

MLB

All four matchups in the MLB playoffs occurred last night. The No. 6 seed Detroit Tigers vs No. 2 seed Cleveland Guardians kicked off Game 3 action last night in the American League with the series tied 1-1. It featured a 3-0 victory for the Tigers. The game that followed was between the No. 5 seed Kansas City Royals and No. 1 seed New York Yankees. Their series also tied at 1-1 coming into the game. The Yankees emerged victorious with a 3-2 win. In the National League, it was time for some Game 4 baseball. All thanks to Francisco Lindor for the No. 6 seed New York Mets who hit a grand slam to propel his team to a 4-1 lead & victory they never looked back from. Mets advance to face the winner of Game 5 between Los Angeles Dodgers & San Diego Padres. To end the night, it was a dominating win for the No. 1 seed Dodgers over the No. 4 seed Padres. They won it 8-0. The series is now tied 2-2.

NFL

Thursday Night Football is back once again tonight for another matchup on Prime Video. This time with the San Franciso 49ers on the road to face the Seattle Seahawks at Lumen Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:15pm.
