HURON, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) A case of mistaken identity leaves two people dead in a shooting in Sioux Falls over the weekend.

The shooting took place at the Kum & Go gas station near Roosevelt High school.  It all started when a 23-year-old man said he had been jumped in another area of the city.  He was told those responsible were at the gas station, so he went there with a 44-year-old man, and a 14-year-old boy who armed with baseball bats.  They were followed to the scene by a woman-who was in a different vehicle.

The two men and the boy confronted a motorcyclist at the gas station and the 23-year-old hit the motorcyclist in the head with a baseball bat.  The motorcyclist was armed and shot and killed the 23-year –old.  The woman in the other vehicle pointed a gun at the motorcyclist, so he shot her in the arm.  Whereupon the 44-year-old man assaulted the motorcyclist with a baseball bat, so the motorcyclist shot him too.  The two men who were shot by the motorcyclist both died.

The woman – 42-year-old Darinda Martinez – was treated for her injuries and was later charged with aggravated assault.

The motorcyclist has not been charged, but the case is under review.

The names of the deceased have not been released.
