MITCHELL, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) As a way to get students interested in the election process, South Dakota Secretary of State Monae Johnson held an “I Voted” sticker design contest. Over 200 students from all grade levels submitted entries. The Secretary of State recruited the other Constitutional Officers and members of the PUC to judge the entries. Here are the winners in each grade level category, the last names have been withheld to protect the privacy of the minor children who won the contest:
K-2 Kynlee, Stanley County Elementary in Stanley County
3-5 Evelyn, Elk Mountain Elementary in Custer County
6-8 Mackenna, Spearfish Middle School in Lawrence County
9-12 Artois, Takini School in Meade County
The Secretary of State’s budget only allowed her to print 2000 stickers. However, those who vote in the winners’ counties will be able to get an “I Voted” sticker of that county’s design winner on a first voted, first served basis.
