Mitchell Kernels

Kernel volleyball had a tough outing last night with the Aberdeen Central Golden Eagles last night. They ended up losing in straight sets, 3-0. Next, they’ll be in action again this Friday when they face Tea Area.

One more game this season for the Kernel football team and it is another brutal matchup. The new No. 1 team in 11AA, the Yankton Bucks, will host your Kernels in Yankton tomorrow. The pregame will be at 6:40pm and kickoff is at 7pm.

Dakota Wesleyan

Tiger soccer will be home in Mitchell today for the final time this season at the Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex. They’re set to take on the Briar Cliff Chargers. It will be a doubleheader. The women will begin at 3pm and then the men will follow and play at 5:30pm.

The volleyball team will be in action tonight in Mitchell. The game will be held in the Christen Family Athletic Center as they look for their third straight win. They will take on the Waldorf Warriors in Mitchell at 7:30pm. Additionally, Tiger volleyball player Kayleigh Hybertson was named the Great Plains Athletic Conference Setter-of-the-Week. She posted 73 assists, 15 digs, seven kills and three blocks this past week.

Back to football game action this weekend for the Tigers. They’ll look to bounce back after a tough home loss last week. They will now face another tough game with another Top 25 ranked opponent in the No. 9 ranked Northwestern Red Raiders. It’ll be a road game in Orange City, Iowa with the pregame beginning at 12:35pm and kickoff at 1pm.

NBA

NBA action returned last night for the 2024-25 season. It kicked off with the Boston Celtics vs New York Knicks. It was the Celtics from start to finish as they set the tone for the season, tying the NBA record for made threes in a single game with 29. They won big 132-109. The second game of opening night was between the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Los Angeles Lakers. More of a tight contest between the two teams in the final game of the night. A monster night from Anthony Davis led the way. Posting 36 points and 16 rebounds in the 110-103 victory over the Timberwolves. It was the Lakers first opening night win since 2016.

NFL

Another Thursday Night Football game is on tap for tomorrow night. It will be the Minnesota Vikings and the Los Angeles Rams. The Vikings are coming off their first loss of the season and the Rams are still aiming to get to a .500 record on the year. Kickoff is set for 7:15pm on Prime Video.
