Mitchell Kernels
Kernel cross-country has their state meet tomorrow afternoon. They will travel and compete at the Hart Ranch Camping Resort in Black Hills, South Dakota. They will begin at Noon this Saturday.
Volleyball is playing again tonight. They will take on Tea Area in Mitchell. All the Kernel teams will be competing against the Titans. JV begins at 4:30pm, then the sophomores at 5:30pm and the varsity round things out with their first serve beginning at 7pm.
The Kernels ended their season last night in Yankton when they took on the Bucks. It was all Yankton from start to finish as the number one team in 11AA asserted their dominance. The Bucks took down the Kernels, 80-14. Mitchell finished their season 1-8 overall.
Dakota Wesleyan
Both Tiger soccer teams play again tomorrow. The women sit at 4-7-1 overall (3-5-2 GPAC) and the men are at 6-7-2 overall (3-5 GPAC). They will each face Dordt tomorrow afternoon on the road beginning with the women’s game at Noon and at 2:15pm for the men.
Tiger basketball begins play tomorrow afternoon! New head coach Kevin Williamson and the men’s basketball team are set to travel to Storm Lake, Iowa to face the Buena Vista Beavers. On the play-by-play will be Drew Ivery making his debut with the Tigers, and the game will air on KOOL 98.3 with the pregame scheduled for 3:15pm and tipoff will be at 3:30pm.
Volleyball will look to carry their strong momentum into this matchup they have tomorrow on the road. Where they will face Northwestern in Orange City, Iowa with first serve set for 5pm.
Both the men’s and women’s cross-country teams continue competing tomorrow. They’ll be in the Blazing Tiger NAIA Classic in Ashland, NE. The women are scheduled to get started at 10am and the men will get rolling at 10:45am.
The preseason poll has come out for women’s wrestling in the Great Plains Athletic Conference. The Tigers sit in fifth in the preseason poll with 45 votes. Ahead of them are four others, with Waldorf in fourth with 177 votes, Midland in third with 183 votes, and tied for first is Hastings and Doane with 200 each.
The Tigers will face a strong team tomorrow. They’ll face the No. 9 ranked Northwestern Red Raiders and hope to go back to the team that started reeling in wins in commanding fashion weeks ago. It’s going to be a matchup on the road in Orange City, Iowa on Saturday with the pregame beginning at 12:35pm and kickoff at 1pm.
MLB
Game 1 of the World Series gets underway tonight in Los Angeles. It’s the No. 1 seed Los Angeles Dodgers hosting the No. 1 seed New York Yankees. The game will begin at 7:08pm on FOX.
NBA
The NBA had a lighter slate of games last night, but now all teams have begun their season. A pair of nationally televised games and a pair that were not. The Boston Celtics and the Washington Wizards faced off. The Celtics continued their winning ways and beat the Wizards, 122-102. The San Antonio Spurs and the Dallas Mavericks made their debuts, with this game on TNT. It was the Mavericks who emerged victorious over the Spurs, 120-109. The second TNT game was the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Denver Nuggets. The Thunder stifled the Nuggets and won 102-87. Then it was the Minnesota Timberwolves playing against the Sacramento Kings. The Timberwolves bounced back after their season opening loss and beat the Kings in a close one, 117-115.
NFL
Last night it was a contest between the Minnesota Vikings and Los Angeles Rams at SoFi Stadium. The Rams decided to turn up the offense, as not only did Cooper Kupp make his return, but so did Puka Nacua. Both receivers had over five receptions. Kupp found the end zone and Nacua eclipsed 100 yards receiving. The Rams won at home over the Vikings, 30-20.
