MITCHELL, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) This has been a generally dry summer and fall throughout much of the United States. As a result, the US Forest Service has announced they will pause their practice of blowing up dead horses in the back country of Wyoming. The Forest Service says that the danger of wildfires is too high to continue detonating the corpses of horses. The Forest Service disposes of dead horses in this way to make them less attractive to grizzly bears and thereby lessen the danger of bear attacks on unsuspecting hikers and campers in the area.
