The Marlins girls varsity hockey was on the ice again yesterday, this time taking on the Sioux Falls Flyers. It was a tough day for the Marlins as they were doubled up by the undefeated Flyers and lost, 6-3. Scoring the goals for the Marlins were Tristen Zimmer in the opening period, Makenna Tronnes in the second and Reese Amick in the third. Mitchell falls to 4-7 overall this season. Next they’ll compete this weekend when they face the Oahe Capitals at 4pm on Saturday and against the Aberdeen Cougars at Noon on Sunday. Both games to be held in Mitchell at the Mitchell Activities Center in the Toshiba Rink.

The Kernel boys basketball team will get set for their first action of 2025 tomorrow. They’ll hit the road tomorrow to take on the team to give them that last loss back on Jan. 2, 2024, the Harrisburg Tigers. They’ll get started at 7pm and the freshman, JV and sophomores will all play before with games starting at 4pm & 5:30pm.

Dakota Wesleyan

The No. 17 ranked women’s basketball team saw action yesterday at home in the World’s Only Corn Palace. It was a dominant win for the Tigers as they took on the College of Saint Mary Flames. DWU earned their sixth straight win after defeating the Flames, 90-49. Next both your Tiger teams will travel to Orange City, Iowa to face the Northwestern Red Raiders on Wednesday.

NBA

Nine games in the association with two games on National TV. You’ll have two 6pm games with the Portland Trail Blazers at the Detroit Pistons and the Phoenix Suns at the Philadelphia 76ers on NBATV. Three games get rolling at 6:30pm as the Indiana Pacers visit the Brooklyn Nets, the Orlando Magic at the New York Knicks and the Milwaukee Bucks at the Toronto Raptors. Three more games at 7pm including the San Antonio Spurs at the Chicago Bulls, Dallas Mavericks at the Memphis Grizzlies and Los Angeles Clippers at the Minnesota Timberwolves. The final game will be the Miami Heat at the Sacramento Kings at 9pm on NBATV.

NFL

Week 18 came to an end in the NFL last night. It ended with a painful loss for the Minnesota Vikings at the hands of the Detroit Lions. It was a 31-9 victory for the Lions, and they earned the number one seed in the NFC heading into the playoffs. The Vikings get dropped down to the five seed for the playoffs, which begin on Saturday. Minnesota will face the Los Angeles Rams in the Wild Card round next Monday, Jan. 13 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, CA at 7pm on ESPN.
