The Kernel basketball teams will take on the Sioux Falls Roosevelt Rough Riders in two different locations tonight. The girls will be at SF Roosevelt high school and the boys will be in the World’s Only Corn Palace. Subvarsity games will be at 4 & 5:30pm while each varsity game will tipoff at 7pm.

There’s been a schedule change for Tiger baseball. The Tigers will now be having their home opener on Thursday, Jan. 30 against the Valley City State Vikings. It’ll be a doubleheader, and first pitch is set for Noon at Drake Field.
WNBA
A blockbuster trade went down in the WNBA over the weekend. It was a three-team trade between the Las Vegas Aces, Los Angeles Sparks and Seattle Storm. The trade gave the Aces all-star Jewell Loyd and the No. 13 pick in the 2025 WNBA draft from LA. It gave the Sparks all-star Kelsey Plum, the No. 9 pick in the 2025 draft from Seattle and a second-round pick in the 2026 draft from Seattle. The Storm received Li Yueru, the No. 2 pick in the 2025 draft from LA and a 2026 first-round pick from the Aces.
NBA
A small four-game slate is what is scheduled for tonight in the NBA. With half of them on National TV. The first two games start at 6:30pm as the Los Angeles Lakers visit the Philadelphia 76ers airing on TNT and the Houston Rockets are at the Atlanta Hawks. The next two will be 9pm starts at the Utah Jazz are at the Golden State Warriors and the Milwaukee Bucks travel to play the Portland Trail Blazers on TNT/TruTV/MAX. Also, just yesterday afternoon, the Miami Heat’s Jimmy Butler walked out of their scheduled practice and has been suspended indefinitely without pay. This marks the third time the he has been suspended by the Heat in recent weeks. Butler now faces losing up to $532,737 per game under the latest suspension which is expected to be at least five games.
