MITCHELL, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) Officials in Yankton County have a warning for locals amid high fire danger. With little moisture and high winds, it doesn’t take much for a grass fire to spread out of control. However, current conditions don’t allow the county to issue an official burn ban as the area remains in a moderate grass fire index. Local residents are still being asked to refrain from any open burning at least for the next few days because of an increased fire risk. Conditions could be improved this weekend with rain in the forecast.
