HUGHES COUNTY, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) A former South Dakota state worker has been found guilty of stealing more than 1.7 million dollars from the Department of Social Services. Lonna Carroll was convicted on two counts of felony grand theft. A Hughes County jury returned the verdict Thursday after just over an hour of deliberations on the final day of her trial. Prosecutors say Carroll took the money over a span of 13 years while working for the department. A sentencing date has not been set, but she faces up to 40 years in prison and 80-thousand dollars in fines. For more crime stories from MitchellNow.com, click here.
