WOONSOCKET, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) Residents in Woonsocket are cleaning up after a powerful storm swept through the small town Sunday afternoon, bringing estimated wind gusts up to 80 miles per hour. The storm uprooted trees, damaged buildings, and knocked out power across the community of about 650 people. Cleanup efforts began early Monday, with neighbors and volunteers using chainsaws, loaders, and hammers to clear debris and board up broken windows. Several businesses, including a local bank, repair shop, and storage units, were heavily damaged. Thankfully, no serious injuries were reported. Local residents say they’re grateful for the community spirit on display and the fact that no lives were lost. Officials expect cleanup to continue throughout the week.
