MITCHELL, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) Dakota Counseling Institute is expanding its services by renovating the former Coach Light Motel into a 20-bedroom short-term housing facility. The Mitchell Planning Commission approved the project this week, with major construction set to begin after Labor Day and an opening goal of November 1st. Executive Director Michelle Carpenter says the facility will provide much-needed transitional housing for clients with behavioral health diagnoses, offering stability while they work toward long-term housing solutions. According to the Mitchell Republic, guests must remain sober, follow program rules, and pay rent at reduced rates. The project adds to Dakota Counseling’s network of crisis, treatment, and assisted living facilities across Mitchell.
