MITCHELL S.D. (Mitchell Now) The Davison County Office of Emergency Management will conduct its regular monthly siren test in Mitchell at 10 a.m. Friday, November 7, as part of the community’s ongoing public safety readiness program.
Emergency Management officials emphasized that the test is a routine exercise to ensure all outdoor warning sirens remain in working condition ahead of the winter season. The test will include the familiar steady tone used for severe weather alerts.
Residents should note that this is only a test, and no emergency action is required. Officials recommend that households take the opportunity to review their own safety plans and ensure they are subscribed to local alert systems through Davison County 911 or South Dakota Alert.
Outdoor warning sirens are designed primarily for people who are outside, not indoors, during emergencies. County officials remind residents that they should rely on multiple notification methods—including mobile alerts, NOAA weather radios, and local broadcasts—for complete coverage.
The county’s emergency management team performs these tests on the first Friday of each month, weather permitting. If poor conditions interfere, the test will be rescheduled for the following week.
