MITCHELL, SD (Mitchell Now) — Funding for a planned five-hole short course at Mitchell’s Lakeview Golf Course would carry over into 2027 if construction is delayed, according to the Mitchell Golf and Cemetery Board.

Board members discussed the estimated $1.05 million project during a recent meeting, noting contractors may already be booked for 2026. Golf and Cemetery Superintendent Jason Gunnare told the board that any unspent funds approved in the city’s 2026 budget would remain available the following year if the timeline shifts.

The short course project is currently in the design phase. City information on Lakeview’s master plan also lists 2026 as a design-stage year for the planned five-hole short course.

Bidding is expected later this year, with construction possible in either 2026 or 2027, depending on contractor availability and project scheduling, according to reporting by the Mitchell Republic.

During the discussion, board members also said they want clearer guidance on how enterprise funds can be used for future capital projects tied to city amenities.
