MITCHELL, SD (Mitchell Now) — There was no shortage of drama in Tuesday’s primary election, both at the local and state levels.

The most glaring changes are at the city level. Voters overwhelmingly backed term limits for councilors. Susan Tjarks is retiring at the end of the session and John Doescher, incumbent in Ward 2, has lost. That guarantees a turnover of 25% with the winners securing at least one term lasting three years.

In the hotly contested governor’s race, there will be a runoff on July 28th to determine the Republican nominee for the general election.
