MITCHELL, SD (Mitchell Now) — The Mitchell Planning Commission has given the go-ahead to a developer to begin to transform a mobile home park into residential housing.
The group approved the platting of a parcel of property along East Hanson Avenue between Hunter Street and Foster Street. The lots are already zoned R4 for high-density residential housing. Van Buskirk Homes hopes to build five single-family residences on the tract.
Also included in the application was to allow for an easement for an alley that is 20 feet wide, rather than the traditional 16 feet. Van Buskirk plans to use the alley as parking for the homes.
The motion has passed out of the planning commission but will still face scrutiny from the Mitchell City Council next month. If the council approves, Van Buskirk could quickly collect the building permits and get to work creating new neighbors for Hitchcock Park.
The planning commission reviewed three residential daycare applications at Monday’s meeting, voting yes on each. One of the applicants is still waiting on a fire inspection. Another applicant is moving from Mount Vernon to Mitchell and bringing an existing daycare with her.
