MITCHELL S.D. (Mitchell Now) Parkston needed 12-innings to edge Elk Point 5-4. Braydon Jervik’s 2-run single gave the Mudcats a 2-0 lead in the first inning, but Elk Point came back to take a 3-2 lead in the 4th.
Jeff Harris’s 2-run double in the 7th put Parkston back in front 4-3 until Elk Point used a pair of singles and one of six Parkston errors to tie the game at 4-4 in the bottom of the 9th.
It was another RBI single by Harris in the top of the 12th that gave the Mudcats the 5-4 win.
Mason Herman pitched the first 9-innings striking out 7 without issuing a walk. Miles Doyle was the winning pitcher throwing three scoreless innings with 5 strikeouts.
The Mudcats will now face Kimball-White Lake Sunday night at 5:30 in the second round following the Nationals 10-2 win over Valley Springs. Mitch Price went all 9-innings on the mound picking up the win giving up only 6-hits along with 13-strikeouts. The game was tied 1-1 after the first inning, but Kimball-White Lake pulled away with 4-runs in the 4th inning highlighted by a 2-run double by Legion player Keaton Christensen. The Nationals sealed the win on a bases clearing double by Dillinger Pearson in the 8th inning making the final 10-2.
Kimball-White Lake outhit Valley Springs 15-to-5.
KOOL-98’s coverage of the State Tourney continues tonight at approximately 8:00pm when the Alexandria Angels take on Crofton Nebraska.
