MITCHELL, SD (Mitchell Now) — Action at the State Amateur Baseball Tournament at Cadwell Park moved into the second round last night after first round play was concluded in the afternoon. In the final first round games Flandreau defeated Larchwood Iowa 5-3, and the Humboldt-Hartford Wood Ducks rolled past Four Corners 13-2 as Four Corners committed 10 errors in the game. Flandreau and Humboldt-Hartford will face each other in the second round on Wednesday night.
In the first game of second round play, not only did the Parkston Mudcats score a 5-0 win over Kimball-White Lake, they put themselves in the record book with a combined no-hit pitching performance.
Starting pitcher Taite Klumb worked the first six innings recording 8-strikeouts and pickup pitcher Landon Wadell (wah-dell) of Dimock-Emery threw the final three innings with 5-strikeouts. It was the first nine-inning no-hit performance in the state tournament since 2013. Meanwhile, Parkston banged out eleven hits led by Max Scott who had four hits and 3 RBI’s, while Luke Bormann and Jeff Harris each had three hits.
The Mudcats will next take their 16-and-7 record against Dell Rapids PBR on Thursday night at 5:30pm in the quarterfinals. P-B-R defeated Garretson 6-4. Drew Sweeter worked 8-innings on the mound for the win, while Weston Hanson had three RBI’s for P-B-R.
KOOL-98’s tournament coverage resumes tonight when Alexandria faces Wynot Nebraska at 5:30pm. Following that game Lennox meets Volga at about 8:00.
