MITCHELL, SD (Mitchell Now) — The City of Mitchell is investigating a potential cybersecurity incident affecting a limited portion of its network, city officials announced Wednesday.

According to a statement from the City of Mitchell, all critical and emergency services are unaffected by the incident and remain fully operational.

The city said it shut down the affected network environment as a precaution and is working with forensic experts to determine the extent and potential implications of the incident. Officials are also working to restore operations within what the city described as a safe and remediated network environment.

As of Wednesday, city officials said there was no indication that the city’s email environment had been affected.

The city said it has systems in place to mitigate cybersecurity incidents and took immediate steps after discovering the potential issue.

Officials did not provide additional details about which portions of the city’s network were affected or when normal network operations are expected to resume.

The city said it will provide additional updates as more information becomes available.
