MITCHELL, SD (Mitchell Now) – Mostly sunny and comfortable late-summer weather is expected in Mitchell for much of the weekend, with daytime temperatures gradually cooling from the mid-80s Friday to the lower 80s Sunday. Rain chances return during the second half of the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls, Friday and Saturday are expected to remain dry, with sunshine and light northeast winds. Sunday will bring increasing clouds and a 30% chance of showers before 1 p.m. Rain and thunderstorm chances increase further Sunday night, when precipitation chances rise to 60%.

Friday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 59. Northeast wind around 5 mph.

Saturday, Aug. 22: Sunny, with a high near 82. Northeast wind 5 to 10 mph.

Saturday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 58. Northeast wind 5 to 10 mph, becoming east-southeast after midnight.

Sunday, Aug. 23: A 30% chance of showers before 1 p.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 81.

Sunday night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, followed by showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 1 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 62. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

Friday and Saturday should offer the best conditions for outdoor activities, with sunshine, light winds and highs in the 80s. Anyone with outdoor plans Sunday should monitor the forecast for changing rain chances. Keep rain gear available and be prepared to move indoors if thunderstorms develop Sunday night.
