Riley Harrington

Hi this is James Riley, I am back at KOOL as your afternoon DJ.. I was born and raised in Armour SD, and went to Southeast Techincal College for Digital Media Production hoping to make it in the commercial filming business. I started my radio career with KOOL back in 2017. This opportunity was the first one to come along post graduation, and I started as a part time board op for football. I have been active in the community of Mitchell serving the Mitchell Area Community Theatre, both on stage and behind the curtain. In my free time I enjoy spending time with my fiancé, lifting weights, and enjoying nature. Music has always been a big part of my life, and this job has given me many opportunities to flex that muscle. My favorite artists include David Byrne, The Beastie Boys, and Jimmy Pop.

Officials in Yankton County are urging locals to exercise caution amid high fire danger due to dry conditions and strong winds. With little moisture and high winds, even a small spark could lead to an uncontrollable grass fire. Although the county is not yet issuing an official burn ban, as the area remains under a moderate grass fire index, residents are still advised to refrain from any open burning over the next few days to reduce the risk of fire.

Library Harmful Content Bill Battle

The debate over a bill addressing harmful content for children is intensifying among South Dakota lawmakers. Tensions rose earlier this week after the State Senate voted to amend House Bill 1239, which could have led to jail time for librarians, easing some concerns from educators and library professionals. However, Republican Senator Taffy Howard escalated the debate with strong remarks on the Senate floor, stating, “If somebody had knowingly given that to my children when they were little, I’d want them strung up from the nearest tree.”

South Dakota is experiencing a record-breaking flu season, with more than 20,000 cases reported, according to the state health department. This marks the highest number of cases in the past decade, with 43 deaths attributed to the virus.
