Although official numbers have not yet been released, this year’s Mitchell Corn Palace Festival was deemed a success. Corn Palace Director Doug Greenway gave an update at Tuesday’s Mitchell City Council meeting.
“Concerts were well-attended, our vendors were happy with their sales on the street, and our ridership on the midway rides was good,” Greenway said. “Back to normal levels between 2014 and 2019…we were above three of those years and below two of those years.” Greenway says the Corn Palace Entertainment Board will see the wrap-up information next week. This was Greenway’s first “normal” Corn Palace Festival because of COVID-19 last summer.
As for the future of the Corn Palace Festival setup, Mitchell Mayor Bob Everson says whether to continue with its current configuration between 5th and 9th Streets or whether to go back to extending it from 1st to 7th Streets will be up to the Corn Palace Entertainment Board.
Next year’s Corn Palace Festival is scheduled for August 24th through August 28th.
