Dakota Wesleyan Basketball heads to North Dakota on Wednesday to continue the GPAC season against Jamestown.
The men come in on a three-game slide, most recently losing 74-55 to No. 12 Morningside. The week before, the Tigers lost in overtime to Valley City State and to Presentation at the NAIA Classic held at the Sanford Pentagon.
“When you’re where we are at, the real focus is on us,” DWU head men’s basketball coach Matt Wilber said. “There’s plenty to talk about with (Jamestown), but when you’re coming off of a game like we played at Morningside and the weekend before in the Pentagon, our main focus is that we’ve got to get better.”
Jamestown comes in at 6-0 and was ranked No. 19 in the preseason poll. The Jimmies are led by reigning GPAC Player of the Year in junior Mason Walters. The 6-foot-9 Walters is averaging nearly 26 points and 13 rebounds per game.
“When you have a player of Mason Walters’ caliber, everybody around you (plays) a notch better,” Wilber said. “They’re a notch better because that guy is on the floor with them, and he attracts so much attention and gets so much done that you have to honor him.”
Tipoff for the men’s game tonight on KMIT will be at 8 p.m.
