SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW)  Sioux Falls media is reporting that there was a second disturbance at the South Dakota State Penitentiary last night.  Correctional officers were called back, and crews were seen wearing gas masks with riot-type shields in their hands as they approached one of the entrances.  Fire alarms could be heard coming from the building.

A corrections officer was hospitalized during a Wednesday disturbance at the South Dakota Penitentiary.  Inmates could be heard chanting “We want phones” from outside the prison.  At the heart of the disturbance is that tablet-based phone, text and email services were suspended earlier this month.  Governor Kristi Noem says the Corrections Department isn’t sure if they’ll be able to return the tablets to inmates.

So far, there’s no word on the condition of the injured officer.
