The South Dakota Board of Regents unanimously approved an expanded alcohol sales policy at its meeting at USD on Thursday. The change will extend the sale of alcoholic beverages into general admission areas of performing arts and athletic events at the six state universities – South Dakota School of Mines, Northern State University, Black Hills State University, USD, SDSU, and Dakota State University. Regents Executive Director Brian Maher said the change came from a request from South Dakota public university students. He added that they are seeing a move toward general admission alcohol sales at collegiate events across the country, and it seemed like a good time to revisit South Dakota’s policy as well. Under the previous policy, alcohol sales were limited to select areas.
