In amateur baseball play Tuesday night, the Alexandria Angels opened up their 2021 season by hanging on to beat the Salem Cubs 9-8. Cole Wenande had 3 hits and 3 RBI’s for the Angels, while Peyton Smith also had 3 RBI’s in their win. The Angels are at Menno Thursday night at 7:30pm.
Elsewhere in amateur baseball…Kimball-White Lake rallied back to beat Mt. Vernon 10-9 as the Nationals scored 3 runs in the 9th inning. Joe Heib and Bryan Zieman had 2 RBI’s for Kimball-White Lake, while Eric Giblin led Mt. Vernon with 2 RBI’s. Mt. Vernon is hosting Plankinton Thursday night.
In high school baseball Tuesday night, Wagner got a strong pitching performance from Nolan Carda as the Red Raiders shutout Canton 7-0. Carda allowed just 3 hits in five innings, while striking out nine batters for Wagner. Matt Link led Wagner’s offense, driving in two runs on the night as the Red Raiders improved to 2-5 on the season.
