PIERRE, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) On Thursday, the State Senate agreed with the Rhoden Administration to reduce funding for the anti-tobacco trust fund. Senate Bill 54 cuts the annual funding from $5 million to $2 million for anti-smoking and vaping initiatives. Republican Sen. Taffy Howard of Rapid City argued that the decrease is justified, saying declining smoking and vaping rates among youth shows the program is working. The Senate passed SB 54 with a 21-14 vote, and the bill now moves to the House.
