A man claiming to be the shooter in a homicide in Wessington Springs contacted a South Dakota media outlet during an alleged standoff early Sunday morning. A man who identified himself as Mitch Caffee told a staff member of Dakota News Now that he was involved in a standoff with police outside of his home in Wessington Springs due to a fatal shooting and that he was the suspect. The Jerauld County State’s Attorney confirmed a single-victim homicide in Wessington Springs is under investigation and that a suspect is in custody.
