Avera Queen of Peace Hospital held a groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday afternoon to announce a renovation and expansion project for Avera Brady Health and Rehabilitation that will enhance the quality of life for its residents, whether they are there to rehabilitate, to live as a long-term resident, or to receive hospice care.

The approximately $3.6 million endeavor will get underway this month and add 4,400 square feet to the facility.  It is expected to take 10 months to complete.

The project will include:

  1. Renovation of the Rehab and Harmony neighborhoods that will result in five additional private rooms, updated nursing stations, and replacement of plumbing, bathroom features, flooring, and more.  These neighborhoods were built in 1960 and are in need of updates.
  2. A new therapy room in Rehab with a location that will be more convenient to patients.
  3. Small updates to the Brook neighborhood and the Administration wing.
  4. Two new hospice suites that will better accommodate patients and families seeking a comforting end-of-life care environment.

The Avera Foundation has committed $1 million to help fund the project and is raising an additional $500,000 in community support through the “Turning Moments into Memories” campaign.  Visit AveraFoundation.org or contact the Foundation at (605) 995-5773 to learn more about this effort.

The last major upgrade to the campus was the construction of Vasek Villa in 2013.
