The National Weather Service has issued a wind chill advisory that is in effect until 6 PM Friday.  A wind chill warning then takes effect until 6 PM on Tuesday.  A blizzard warning takes effect at midnight Friday night/Saturday morning and is in effect until midnight Saturday night/Sunday morning.

Ivan Gumbs with the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls says the Mitchell area is not expected to receive any significant snow with this system.  He says the blizzard warning is prompted by winds gusting up to 50 miles an hour blowing snow on the ground around and causing ground blizzard conditions.  Additionally, wind chill temperatures will drop to -50 degrees.

If you have travel plans this weekend, consider postponing them.  If you must travel, be sure to have a charged cell phone and a winter survival kit in your vehicle.  Also let friends and family know of your travel route in case of emergency.
