The South Dakota Health Care Association’s Century Club announces D. Boyd Shank as the 2023 South Dakota Centenarian of the Year. Shank was born in November of 1914 on a farm in Jewell County, Kansas. He is 108 years old, attending school in a one-room schoolhouse and graduating from Superior High School in Nebraska at the age of 16. He began college at the age of 17, attending the University of Nebraska and Iowa State University. Shank and his wife moved to Brookings in 1946 when he began a 35-year career with SDSU as a researcher and teacher. He retired in 1980 and still lives in Brookings.
