A Wessington Springs man who killed his wife’s grandmother last year has been sentenced to life in prison.  39-year old Mitch Caffee had pleaded guilty to first degree manslaughter and aggravated assault after initially facing more than two dozen counts.  In October, Caffee forced his way into 90-year old Lorraine Redmann’s home to confront his wife over his arrest for violating a no-contact order between the two.  Caffee pushed his wife onto a couch and then shot Redmann in the head when she came to check on the commotion.  He initially claimed it was an accident while trying to knock a phone out of Redmann’s hand.  He also assaulted Kathren Caffee, holding her hostage during a standoff following the shooting.  Attorney General Mark Vargo said life sentences are reserved for the most heinous of crimes and called the sentence appropriate.
