The Government Affairs Committee of the Mitchell Area Chamber of Commerce will host a public forum to include candidates for the upcoming election for Mitchell Board of Education and Mitchell City Council, as well as representatives to discuss the pros and cons of two ballot issues. The forum will be held on Tuesday, May 23 at the Dakota Wesleyan University Sherman Center beginning at 5:30 p.m.

The forum will begin with School Board candidates, followed by City Council candidates, and end with discussion on the ballot issues. A forum is a public event where candidates running for office are given the opportunity to express their positions on issues. All candidates for each race have been invited to participate.

Forums are open and free for the public to attend. A link to the livestream will be available on the Mitchell Area Chamber of Commerce events page at http://www.mitchellsd.com.

Representatives from local media entities have been invited to pose questions to the candidates. Individuals from the public who attend in person will be able to submit written questions to the media representatives. Audience questions may not be directed to one single person. Media representatives will review the questions for duplication and appropriateness and have the final selection of which questions to ask during the forum.

Following the public forum, the Mitchell High School Debate Team will be debating the Lake Initiated Measure. All attendees and participants are welcome to attend. This will not be moderated by the Mitchell Chamber of Commerce Government Affairs Committee, but we encourage factual/logical, ethical, and emotional arguments on community issues.
