MITCHELL, SD (Mitchell Now) — A local organization is urging community members to step up and make a difference in the lives of children in need.

Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) serves children across nine counties in the region, working to ensure each child has a dedicated advocate during challenging times. The organization’s mission is simple: one volunteer in every community.

Right now, CASA says children in the area are waiting — for someone to listen, to show up, and to speak on their behalf. Volunteers play a critical role by advocating for the best interests of children involved in the court system.

CASA is now recruiting new volunteers, with the next round of training set to begin June 4. The training prepares individuals to serve as advocates, equipping them with the tools and knowledge needed to support children effectively.

Community members interested in volunteering are encouraged to apply online at https://www.mitchellcasa.org/.

Organizers emphasize that even one volunteer can make a lasting impact in a child’s life.

“If not you, who?” the organization asks in its outreach efforts, encouraging residents to consider stepping forward to help meet the growing need.
