MITCHELL, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) There will be an informational forum on IM 28 at 11am on Wednesday October 2, 2024, at the James Valley Community Center.  Initiated Measure 28 would remove the sales tax on anything able to be consumed by humans.  It may have begun as a repeal of the sales tax on groceries, but opponents fear that the way that IM 28 is worded it may also remove the sales tax on things like toothpaste, cigarettes and even toilet paper since all those items (and more) are “consumable” by humans in one way, shape or form.  The forum is free and open to the public.

Ribbon cuttings will take place at Krohmer Plumbing’s new location (the old Shopko building) on north Main Street on Thursday October 3, 2024, at 4:30pm.  Atria Products (formerly Toshiba) will have their ribbon cutting on Foster Street (the long-standing Toshiba location) at 11am on Thursday October 10, 2024.  Muth Electric will formally open their new location in the old Campbells’ building (old timers will remember Kmart was once in that location as well) on Thursday October 10, 2024, at 4:30pm with a ribbon cutting.
