The 92 annual South Dakota Amateur baseball tournament ends today in its twelfth glorious day. What a great Tournament it’s been, and we will start with today’s lineup and the weekend results.

Today’s lineup at the State Tournament at Cadwell Park begins with the Class A Championship matchup between Renner Monarchs battling the Sioux Falls Brewers at 12 noon. To be followed by the 92 annual South Dakota State B Amateur Baseball Tournament which includes the Championship game starting at 2 p.m. between the Del Rapids PBRs and the Platte Killer Tomatoes.

Sunday is our KOOL 98.3 FM Amateur Baseball game of the week as our coverage continues as we will be at Cadwell Park to wrap up the season for the Championship Class B state tournament game featuring the Platte Killer Tomatoes vs the Del Rapids PBR at 2:00 pm. The Platte Killer Tomatoes are now in the Class B state Tournament Championship game thanks to a stella pitching performance by the Platte Killer Tomatoes Michael Buitenbos who puts his team on his back and led the Platte Killer Tomatoes to their first ever championship game. The Platte Killer Tomatoes beat the Dimock Emery Raptors by the final of 4 to nothing. Michael Buitenbos allowed six hits, four walks and struck out four batters on 128 pitches in the complete-game performance. The Killer Tomatoes scored three runs in the top of the 7th inning as Sheldon Gant hit a sharp ground ball to Dimock-Emery shortstop Drew Kitchens, who sailed his throw past first baseman Phil Johnson for an error. Michael Buitenbos scored from second on the throw and that hyped up the Platte crowd as he crossed home plate. Michael Buitenbos continued to shutout Dimock-Emery, which left 12 runners stranded on base, in the final two innings. The Platte Killer Tomatoes finished with eight hits, including two hits and two RBI by Hunter Hewitt. Michael Buitenbos added two hits, while Seth Muth, Gant, Townsend and Hayden Kuiper added hits as well. The Platte Killer Tomatoes now face the Del Rapids PBR at 2 pm today.

Saturday’s action continued at the 92 annual State B Tournament which included the 2nd semifinal game of the day featuring the Garretson Blue Jays vs the Del Rapids PBR and this game was all Del Rapids PBR winning by the final of 5 to 3. This game was about a dominating pitching performance by the PBR’S Trey Randl who tossed five strikeouts and with the help of the defense behind him was efficient in his seven innings of work throwing 72 strikes in 106 pitches only allowing three runs on 3 hits. Brayden Pankonen powered the PBR offense as he drove in a run, scored a run and had two hits including a double. Zach Puetz drove in a run on a double in the win. Del Rapids PBR moves on to the Championship game of the State B amateur baseball tournament and will face the Platte Killer Tomatoes today at 2:00 p.m.

The Sioux Falls Brewers are now in the Class A championship game thanks to a big victory on Saturday after a 10 to 8 victory over the Sioux Falls Squirrels. The Brewers Sam Siegel drove in five runs as the Brewers advanced to the State A championship game Saturday. Siegel tallied five RBIs on two hits, a walk, a double, and a three-run homer, Riley Johnson drove in two runs on two hits and a walk, TJ Miller and Jack Sutton each tallied a hit and an RBI, while James Borges, Ian Strum, Sam Baier, and Drue Soukup each tallied hits in the win.

Carson Askdal allowed two runs on five hits and two walks in six innings, striking out four. For the Flying Squirrels, Daniel Buteyn allowed four runs on two hits and four walks, striking out three. Zach Dibble and Lucas Wilber each tallied three hits and a combined three RBIs, Dexter Payne and Jaden Holzer each drove in a run on two hits, while Trevor Hurley drove in a run on a hit and two walks in the loss. Sioux Falls Brewers will face the Renner Monarchs Sunday at noon for the State A championship.

The Renner Monarchs advanced to the Class A tournament championship game with a 5 to 2 win on Friday vs the SF Squirrels. The Monarchs Dave Borchardt drove in two runs on two hits, Aiden Ladd had two RBIs on a single, Chaz Palmer tallied two hits, while Jaxon Rosencranz and Ryan Hander each tallied hits in the win.

Ryan Hander earned the victory on the mound, allowing one hit in five shutout innings, striking out eight. For Sioux Falls, Stuart Baruth allowed five runs on seven hits and two walks in eight innings, striking out four. Trevor Hurley tallied two hits, Connor Hurley drove in a run, while Jack Simonsen and Dylan Ades each tallied hits in the loss. Renner moves on to the Class A state championship game on Sunday at 12 p.m vs the Sioux Falls Brewers today starting at 12 pm.

The Minnesota Twins are on the road this weekend at Globe Life Field in a four-game run for the division title vs the Texas Rangers needing to gain ground. The Twins are looking to close the gap in A.L. Central vs the Cleveland Guardians only trailing them now by 2 games after a 3 to 2 win on Thursday night. The Twins played long ball Friday night in Texas as both Ryan Jeffers and Carlos Santana hit towering shots as Santana’s was a three-run blast in the top of the fifth to put the Twins ahead for good winning by the final of 4 to 3. The Minnesota Twins made it look easy taking their third straight against the Rangers Saturday at Globe Life Field as the Twins David Festa picked up the victory and is now 3-2 on the season. The Twins will look to make it 4 straight wins vs the Texas Rangers as Pablo Lopez who is 11-8 on the season with a 4.67 era battles the Rangers Tyler Mahle who is 0-1 with a 2.7 era starting today at 1:35 pm.

Both the Winner Colome Pheasants and the Garretson Blue Jays Friday night and had their sights on the championship of the State B Amateur Baseball Tournament. The Blue Jays struck first as Tayson Swatek drove in the first two runs of a 5 run top of the fifth and that all the runs they would need. The Garretson Blue Jays are now in the Semifinals of the tournament after beating the Winner Colome Pheasants by the final of 6 to 3. The Garretson Blue Jays Nick Bonte struck out nine batters, allowed seven hits, 3 runs and walked two batters in 8 innings for the win. Nick Bonte also helped himself on the mound driving in the sixth run of the game. Reed Harter led Winner/Colome with four hits and drove in one run. Derek Graesser and Austin Calhoon added hits. Friday night’s action at the 92 annual State B Tournament included the first game of the day as you had the defending champions featuring the Canova Gang vs the Del Rapids PBR and this game was all Del Rapids PBR winning by the final of 7 to 3. This game was about a dominating pitching performance by the PBR’S Drew Sweeter- who tossed just two strikeouts but with the help of the defense behind him was efficient in his eight innings of work throwing 77 strikes in 118 pitches only allowing three runs on 12 hits. Brayden Pankonen powered the PBR offense as he drove in a run, scored a run, on three hits including a double. Garrett Gassman drove in a run on a double in the win. Del Rapids moves on to the semifinal round of the State B amateur baseball tournament and will face the Garretson Blue Jays tonight at 7:30 p.m.

The Renner Monarchs advanced to the Class A tournament championship game with a 5 to 2 win on Friday vs the SF Squirrels. The Platte Killer Tomatoes are the come from behind kings as they have now won two straight games in walk of fashion as again last night winning by the final of 8 to 7 over the upstart Hartford Humbolt Wood Ducks last night at Cadwell Park. With one out, Parkston Mudcat pick-up player Jeff Harris hit a ground ball to second baseman Nathan Adrian, who committed an error fielding the ball.  After Richard Sternberg walked to load the bases, Michael Buitenbos plated Grant Doom and Harris with a single into left field.

Platte’s Sheldon Gant evened the score at 7-7, driving in Sternberg from third base on an RBI single into right field. Buitenbos, who was advancing from second, was out at home plate for the second out. Then Mason Townsend, who was 1-for-3 entering the final at-bat. In the eighth pitch of the at-bat, Townsend ripped a single down the right field line. Which scored Seth Muth, a Parkston Devil Ray pick-up player, for the game-winning run as Platte survived and advanced to the Class B semifinals.
